coolant leak sources

Yes, I'm making a lot of posts lately. I'm bored and want to do something to the truck.

So I did a head job a few months ago. Ever since then it's been guzzling down oil, and coolant has been slowly disappearing as well. It also smokes on startup (though I'm almost 100% sure it's oil, not coolant. But I could be wrong)

When we did the head job, we reseated the valves, got new valves, and seals, and all new gaskets and hoses.

I'm just curious as to where coolant can leak into the engine from. What would cause smoke on startup if it was a coolant problem? (BESIDES a bad headgasket)

This is purely a hypothetical situation for my own curiosity.
