code 71 egr temp sensor
hello
i am getting a code 71 from my 1990 22re
i know its the egr
i think the egr valve is working fine
after i cleaned the throttle body with the throttle body cleaner the light went on
do you guys think buy useing the cleaner and a little wd40 inside where the rod for throttle butterfly to lube it up because it was sticking.
would that cause the egr temp to go bad?
and turn on the check engine light
it only turn on on the highway.
let me know
thanks

Shafner, unplug the connector on the side of the EGR itself and put the resistor in the BODY side of the plug. You can pick up a pack of resistors from radioshack for like 2$.
Tubbyfatty, yes I left everything hooked up. Like I said no power loss or mpg loss either

Lol your engine is not going to blow up. And as far as I can tell it is still woring because my engine runs great. One way to tell tho is drive it for a bit (after you put the resistor in) and feel the pipe going into the intake from the EGR. If it is hot it is working.
Vital, I took my sensor out and it looked fine. It doesn't go into the exhaust gases, it just threads into the side of the EGR and measures the temp. I don't think they really get dirty

I did the suction test and found at idle, if my EGR is manually opened it will try and stall the engine, so it's not a sticking EGR. It's most likely just a bad sensor.
