calling all soft tops

OK I would like every one with a soft top to please post up some pics of their frames for their soft tops from the sides and the back and any other key location.
I want a soft top but cannot afford one at this time so I would like to make one for myself.
thanks

Much like my opinion on women in bra's, go frame-less!

You could always go the alternate route....
and cut up a fiberglass top, use it a a frame for a roll-back "targa" style top.
That's what I did....

Dude, that looks sick!!! Do you remember what your total cost was? Did you have to get an extra top? Or did you use the Original?

Didn't want to destroy my top, in case it didn't work out.
I got a top in exchange for a 12-pack of Carona.
It already had the slideing windows removed (broken out) so it wasn't worth much anyway.

That said... I'm doing another one right now for another guy.... just bought 2 tops for $75. No big investment.
For this one, I'm cutting it into panels and making them removable and re-attachable, and making a vinyl cover for the front half.
I'm starting a thread of it on NC4x4 soon... if there's interest I gusss I could post here too.

Total cost on that setup... lets see...
Top - 12 pack Carona.
Fabric - $30 worth? I have lots of it. Enough to make several bikinis if there's interest (but that's another thread)
Many snaps - ~$25 total
Tools for snaps - $8
Paint, supplies etc - $15
Lung damage from fiberglass dust - $Priceless!

For the sides (on that one) I'm probbaly going to use clear acrylic sheet, you can get enough at Home Depot for about $30. They'll just pop on/ogff w/ either velcro or wingnuts.

I'm planning to do a hard top like the one in the thread above. Will take out the side windows, square up the opening and frame it with aluminum. Inside the opening will have a framed Lexan window, hinged at the top to fold up onto the roof while on the trail. Then can be folded down and locked up tight if need be.

I'm still in the process of making one like this. Too hot this summer. Only got one rear window glassed in level with the front window.

I found this today it won't fit the runner but the guy has a link to the web site and I bet they could make one that fits.

it will be some time until I make a soft top for my 4runner
