You are speeding down exit ramps with your tires inflated to the maximum sidewall rating???!!! That's not the recommended tire pressure. That's overinflated and you'll wear out tires faster and greatly reduce your stopping ability in an emergency stop. More expensive than gas.

Do you have cruise control? I started using cruise at the speed limit in my dd whenever possible and squeeze another couple of MPH out of it during highway driving.

Could be cuz I was on 4.30s and 30x9.5s.. I never had to floor it up hills, and was getting very decent mileage.

I would drop the tire presure down to 40 psi at the most, 50 psi is to much and unsafe and you will wear out the center of your tires.

Thats almost unbelievable... I also have 4.10, 35x12.5, 5 speed, headers, and no cat at all, truck is in perfect shape. I could maybe get 17 mpg highway driving. In summer.

Good luck man! I'm getting 16 on winter gas with 235R15s and stock gears, though we'll see if that goes up with my cat gutted

I got over 25 mpg on 97 all 55 mph speed limit, all downhill for a whole tank of gas on 4.10s 22re 31s. I would discourage you from over inflating your tires because you will lose money to wearing the center of your tires out. Replacing tires is a lot more pricey than the savings of a few cents a mile.

I picked up a taurus fan, going to try that next week.
I use my ac for OBA so ill keep it on
im looking for hubs now
vacuum gauge and grounding... thank you, I didn't think of that.

tires at 50psi is fine. and no I didn't lose cornering or braking. these aren't bias ply. I ran my 33s at 45psi for about 20k with good wear. "max load xxxxlbs at 50psi". 50psi is the optimal pressure for loads, which is a safe pressure.

filled up last night, 22mpg again... set the afm 2clicks lean from stock supra. seems to be about how it was stock. any more and it starts to run lean.

don't forget to compensate for tire size and gears for MPG. the door panel states 225/75r15 tires 410 gear code for me. I have 315/70r17 so I use a calculator

225= 28.3
315= 34.7 according to treadwright, source of tires
267miles x 34.7/28.3
divided by 15gal
21.83mpg

now my 315s could be slightly smaller (even though they are brand new,) telling a slghtly higher indicated mpg. I would estimate it is accurate within 1/2mpg though.

what's wierd is my 90 runner, bone stock 265/75r16 22re 5spd 410 gets 18-20 tops. I think it needs a tune up or something. probably doesn't help that it has 260k miles. il have to give it a tune up tomorrow, see if I can find another supra afm too.

I plan on running my itake to the AC cowl on the hood for cold air/snorkel. the hole is too small from the stock intake.

I get about 20-21 around Houston, 31x10.50 inflated to around 25psi, electric fan, LCE header, 2.5 exhaust, TRD muffler. I try very hard to keep it under 60-65mph and look way ahead for stops.

Need to find the parts and info, then do the Supra AFM with 3" intake pipe.

Google Hypermiling.
I was getting 20mpg pulling a trailer in my bone stock 90 3.0.

I get over 30 sometimes in my 3.4 swapped automatic 4runner and I still don't have the hub conversion, and I couldn't get the 2000 tacoma computer to talk to the transmission correctly, so I don't think I have lockup either.

but like you'll see in the hypermiling stuff, some of it is extremely dangerous and some of it is just downright annoying to drive like that, but curiousity gets the better of me.. and I had to see what I could get..

I can get 20-21 with my stock setup on my '87 4Runner with manual hubs and 31x10.50s. I might do better were it not for the 70mph speed limit on the interstate where you have to do at least 75 to stay alive.

yeah, I've been researching hypermiling too, without trying to drive like a jerk though. filled up again, 21.6. I really need some hubs and a e-fan im thinking. im still doing pretty well for 35s.

how did you get so high with an automatic?

Weight Reduction! lose the spare, all your stuff, any unused seats, speakers.....ok that's a little extreme but it will help.

"An extra 100 pounds in your vehicle could reduce your MPG by up to 2 percent. The reduction is based on the percentage of extra weight relative to the vehicle's weight" (http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/driveHabits.shtml)

I got 17.85 on my last tank with my 90 single cab 235's and a camper shell with some tools in the back. I was getting 20 last summer. Maybe I could use a tuneup? I don't get how people are claiming such high mileage as the estimated mpg from the factory was 17 city and 20 highway, at least for my 1990 single cab 22re 5 speed 4WD with manual hubs.

I just used your formula since I have 235's and I got about 18.22 on that tank. I let mine warm up for a long time in the winter and I do rev it out but there is no way I could get 25 probably without the mods you are talking about.

I drive 28.6 miles round trip to work and cruise at 70-75 for most of the trip. I'm running on 265/75/16s and average 18 mpg. It would be great if the speed limit was 55
