ADD to Manual Hubs

I did a search on this subject and found lots of info, but still no answer to the question: Do I have to do the Spindle Nut Conversion when going from ADD to Aisin Manual Hubs, or can I just slap in the new hubs and go?

Just take off the ADD flange and the new hubs should slap right on.

Don't forget to do the spindle gear reversal and install new circlip retainer bearings.

AHH yes, spindle gear reversal.... How do I do that?
Forgive me, I'm still a fairly new yota owner, and this is the first vehicle I've ever owned w/ IFS.

Heehee. Just pullin yer leg.
Everybody knows you only gotta do the spindle gear reversal when you use a Dana 44 reverse rotation axle for your SAS....

It's a piece of cake. Just an echo - no you don't need the spindle nut conversion kit.

Okay, Okay... Lets not pick on the new guy too much.
So no conversions, just slap 'em on and go.
Sounds good.

Yep, the only time you have to do the spindle nut conversion is if you are going from auto hubs to manual. ADD to manual is a snap. Takes longer to R&R the tires than to do the hubs.

Very good idea. Manual hubs will give you less wear on your cv shafts. plus maybe a hint of better gas mileage. That is enough pro's to make anyone want to do it. Less wear = less breakage.

Only con is you have to get out of your truck to lock the front wheels in 4wd.

Soon as I get the money, I think I'm going to do the ADD defeat and then convert to manual hubs. Money is the root of all evil

The issue is that my ADD is starting to fail I believe. It only enguages in 4WD 1/2 the time and I believe its related to the ADD system.

91,
I think the Aisin's would remedy your problem. I'm doing it simply because I hate changing CV axles. If the manual hub will save me from doing another CV just once, they've paid for themselves x's 10. Keep and eye on e-bay. Sometimes there's some good deals. But don't pay more than $40 for them on ebay, because the yotayard sells them for that, plus $10-$15 shipping.

Here's a question: if after doing the swap to manual hubs (which I'm starting about10 minutes), if you leave the hubs free and pull your lever into 4-Lo, does that essentially give you 2-Lo?

Mine...

I got mine done yesterday. Piece of cake. The cone washers came out easily with a light tap on the outside of the hub. Just had to keep a finger on the end of the stud cause some of 'em fly right out. All I had to do was make new gaskets to go between the hub and hub body. Here they are on...

Lee, should I have done the spindle gear reversal before I put it back together? I'm getting an awful grinding noise now.
