92 pickup Starter/ignition problems
#21
Thanks DallsTX, for schematic and solenoid contacts information. Are they for the 1.4kW starter? Toyota stopped making the 1.0 kw that came on the first gen 4Runner 22RE.
So... Schematic shows it is wired correctly (below).
Jimmyjohn,
Good job cleaning that solenoid control connector. If you get a solid click from the solenoid but starter motor still does not turn, then it is most likely the solenoid contacts.
If you still get a faint click from solenoid when starting the normal way, it would not hurt to verify that starter relay was wired correctly (schematic from an engineer at his desk does not guaranty that the assembler on the line did it right). Pin 4 of starter relay should always have 12V even when ignition switch is OFF.
Best if you could trace and inspect that wire that the arrow points to back to the fuse block, AND the wire that runs from starter relay to the solenoid. Both should be as short as possible, and at least a 12AWG.

All I can say is they are for the starter in a '92 with a 3.0 3vze.

Well after a few days of fiddling around with the starter solenoid pos. I had the idea to check the connections for the relay. I touched some wire around in the relay receptacles and it started up once I found a good connection.
I bought a delco Starter Relay and since installing it I have had zero problems... Almost zero problems. I think one time it didn't turn over when I turned the key, but since that this whole time zero issues starting the truck.
We shall see. Thanks for posting the starter wiring diagram Dallas. I think my wiring is good but I will check it out when I get a moment.
Case closed for now.

A problem well-stated is almost solved.
Pls specify. Will not crank as in starter motor turning or no combustion as in "VROOOM!"
