how do u know if the EGR is workin

Use a vacuum pump and pump up the valve with about 10" vacuum while the engine is idling. The engine should run very rough or stall. then connect a vacuum guage to the hose for the EGR valve and goose the throttle You should see the vacuum come up just as the throttle is opened

If this all works, the the EGR should work.

is there another way. and i dont a a vacuum guage and can i use an vacuum pump that i all ready have under the hood

and i have this thing that once in a wile the rpm drops and comes right back up its a 3.0

If that is the symptom you are trying to diagnose, It is not likely to be related to the EGR function. You could disconnect the EGR and drive around to see if the symptom goes away. And it probably won't.

it might be a dead spot or dirty spot in the tps
