I have been tracking down this problem on my 90 4runner with a 3.0 for awhile now.

Here are the symptoms of the problem:

About 2 months ago I came very close to running out of gas. Upon filling up the truck had a slight miss and was idling a couple hundred rpm lower than normal. This problem went away after that tank of gas and I chalked it up to some bad gas.

Unfortunatly, this issue resurfaced last week. The truck idles fine in park but as soon as I put in drive it drops down to 500rpm and idles like a cammed v8.

I have replaced the fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap, and rotor and the problem has not gone away. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could be missing.
