87 22r 5 speed need more power

I have a 87 pu with 22r and a 5 speed it has 31's on it now with stock ride height and stock gears What gears should i run and still take it on the highway on a regular basis
??????? Maybe 33's in the future

4.88 is about as low as you want to go, useable, but pretty low.

4.56's, unless you plan to go up to 33's, then i'd go ahead and get 4.88s

For more power from the motor, I hear a better Carburetor will help significantly. A good header, like LCE, And exaust...performance mufflers, make sure the piping is in good shape (no holes, etc.)
