so when i put my 4runner in 4wd the 4wd light on the dash will blink 3 times then shut off, i hear the relay clicking and have checked the diafram on the front axle and it moves fine and it getting vacuum when in 4wd. but it is not working like it should, i sometimes feels like it is in 4wd when i put it in 4hi but now sure. any help would be nice.

so i ended up switching the vacuum lines at the actuator and the light stays on now. over the next couple days i will be jacking it up off the tires and seeing if it was just the lines hooked up backwards.

I looked at mine and there are the two lines that come down by the frame rails.The line that is closest to the front of the rig is plugged into the line that is closest to the front of the 4runner. The line that is behind that is also the line that is behind the one on the frame. If that makes sense. Basically they mirror each other as they come down off the frame in relationship to how they plug into the two ports on the front of the diff.

However, if you switched them around and they work, then problem solved, no matter what order they come down to the diff from.

Did your 4wheel drive work before the water accident? Is this the first time you have tried it?

Best way to tell. Put it into 4wd, go for a drive and make a turn on pavement. The front end should have some binding during a turn. If it drives normal, then 4wd is not working. I would bet that since your light is now on and working properly that the rest of the system is working properly.

Did you remove the hoses for any reason? I am just wondering how they got switched around to begin with...

the vacuum lines where hooked up wrong and the fork was hooked up wrong..
