ok so I want to put an electric fan on my 94 4x4 3.0 V6 to get more power and better gas mileage does any body have any links or instrucions on how to install and wire it in... thanks

 

if you buy a flex a lite it should come with instructions

 

some people on here don't like flexalite fans,

the other option that alot of people do is put ford taurus electric fans in thier trucks, do a search on here and you'll find tons of info,

 

I love my flex-a-lite fan alot more than stock but its true the taurus fans are nice and cheaper. Depends on what this guys wanting for his.

BTW is the taurus fan a pusher or puller?

 

I don't know 100%, but I'm pretty sure that it's a puller because guys put them behind the radiator, just like stock

 

Ya then its a puller. I was gonna say that the pullers work much better than pushers

Its in front of a 3.4 but it should be the about the same with a 3.0 motor. You can measure until you're blue in the face, but until you actually put everything in you don't know. Looks to have about 1/2 inch clearance:

I have the Flexalite on mine. My only complaint is that when I'm in the Sierras up high on a hot day my rig will heat up pulling a long hill. Usually if I catch it in time and turn the heater to full hot it will cool off. My entire cooling system is less than a year old so I know it's not that. I just think the fan is not pulling enough CFM's under high demand. That is worse case scenerio too. Around town and normal driving it will never get hot. Be sure to use quality connectors and solder everything. I went the cheapo route and used crimp connectors the first time around. I almost blew up my engine 3 times because of a loose connection while wheeling and the fan not coming on. Nothing like looking down just in time to see your temp guage going into the red and your in the rocks and unable to build up any speed to cool it off. I re-did all the wiring with good stuff and haven't had any issues since.

 

4 Runner? Gas mileage? HA! Good ole trusty manual failproof stock fan for me. I don't need no more elec fan headaches!

 

I have the Ford Lincoln 2 speed electric fan. I burned up 2 hayden electonic controllers on the low speed wire with the relay output bridged. They simply stop turning on the fan. Not cool. The relay is fine.

I finally installed my DCcontrols FK60 controller on the high speed wire.
I know the FK60 is a little big for the application, but after burning up 2 marginally rated controllers, I don't consider it a bad idea. Wiring was simple too.

I notice no difference in power or fuel economy with the electric fan. It was simply cheaper than buying a new fan pulley bracket (fake water pump).

If your stocker is working, I say keep it.

 

I recommend the electric fans from 3.8L V6 Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable/Lincoln MK VIII/Mustang($15 at Pull-a-part). I use the Hayden fixed 180* thermo switch but I use that to switch on a 85A constant duty solenoid (got mine for $39 at West Marine but you can get them at NAPA as well). The solenoid is able to handle the massive startup current draw of the high speed setting, and I have had no issues with burning up the thermo switches since adding the solenoid. Do it right the first time and get the solenoid. I burned up like 5 or 6 thermoswitches trying to run the fan with that alone. I just updated my Taurus Fan writeup from 4 years ago.
