3.0 starter fix
up front credit goes to 4crawler and his cheap starter fix link i dont have it but will post it when i find it. I just thought i'd post pics of my starter repair to give back to a site that I have taken so much from.
MY starter would only click when the key was turned so I turned to yota tech and found 4crawlers link so I....
UNbolted starter and pulled it out(Quite a task can go into detail if needed trying to keep focus on the rebuild aspect)
With the starter on the table I used a phillips to losen the three bolts on the plate that looks like it has a nipple.
Removing the plate you find the plunger which pulls directly out and leaves a spring in the shaft
Upon pulling the plunger you get a good look at the culprit the copper tabs that wear out over time. usually only one wears seriously, I found a junk starter and this was the case and was the case in my starter so i took the good from the junk and put in mine, this pic shows the junk starter with both bad tabs as I decided to do the pic tutorial after i buttoned mine up.
You can see the wear the plunger puts on them in this pic
with the plunger out its time to take the tab or tabs out you"ll need a 14mm and a 12mm I put the 14mm on and put the 12 mm nut on behind it to prevent from stripping the 14 because its kind of hid. You can also see the saudered electrode on the tab, becareful not to damage this, also note how wore the tab is
Exploded view of the tabs and fastening hardware
INstall the new tab or tabs and button it back up the way you took it apart and you should be good to go,
I hope this helps someone because it took longer to show it than it did to do it I hate computers.
