3.0 knocking at idle

Hey folks, I have a 91 pickup with a factory re-installed 3.0 (the guy before me went through the official recall process) it's probably got less than 60k on it. lately it's been making a wrapping/knocking sound around idle rpm speed, both in and out of gear, above about 2000 rpm its totally normal. it reminds me of the beginning of the timing chain cover woes i had with my yota 4 cylander a few years back, but my understanding is that this has a timing belt and not a chain.
it seems to be coming from the lower regions of the block but i can't really tell, anyone got any ideas?
thanks.

Drain and strain your engine oil and look for deposits. Is it a dull knock?

tried it, no deposits, on closer inspection its actually more of a tick than a knock, my hearing sucks so i needed a second opinion and they also confirmed that it is in fact a tick and not a knock.

I'm not too familiar with V6 engines, but when was the last time your valves were adjusted?

I had a proble as you do. At an idle. It almost sounded like a low tick, and then at times it would get loud, and the soft again. This turned out to be a bad injector. Injectors can sound just like a tapping valve.
