22RE wierd "sputter/gurgle" problem. Sound clip inside. Help!
Ok. Every since I've put this motor in, I've had this sputter/gurgle problem. I CANNOT figure it out. First, I thought it was a timing problem, so I set timing to stock. It still does it. Then, I figured I have a vacuum leak or something, so I spent a bunch of time looking up a vacuum diagram. All my vacuum lines are routed find and there are no leaks or clogs. Other than those two things, I honestly can't figure out why this motor would even be doing this. Watch the video, it's 44 seconds long. IT ONLY DOES IT AT A STEADY THROTTLE. The higher the RPM's go, the less "gurgle" there is. I have no tach, but my guess is that it completely stops the gurgle around 4500 RPM. Listen to the video, and you will understand what I'm talking about. Thanks for the help!

sounds like an ignition miss to me, did you replace all the usual tune up stuff? plugs, wires, cap & rotor ect. I could be wrong but that would be my first guess.
btw, I did not have to sign up for f@gbook to watch the vid.

also try to find what cyl is causing the issue. while the engine is running, remove one spark plug wire at a time and see if that changes things. use something to keep from getting shocked
oxygen sensor, air leak
check the plug on top of the injectors, they have a habit of coming lose
a worn out timing chain and/or broken guides may cause this to happen as well
check the EGR by unpluging the vacum lines and still no change, that means its not EGR related.

It's not a miss, as far as I know. It's not the O2 sensors, I replaced both with Bosch O2 sensors when I dropped the new motor in. No air leak, I've searched this for ever and ever. Injectors are fine and none are coming unplugged. I've checked this too. It's not timiing chain or broken guides, because this motor has less than 8,000 miles, and at the time of build I put in the metal backed guides. I thought it was EGR too, at first. When the motor went in, I had this problem, so I tested the EGR like you mentioned. It made no difference, so I figured it was bad, so I swapped it out from my 88' since I know that one is good...and it still makes no difference. What's funny is, is the motor didn't do this when it was stock and untouched. Since I've pulled it and built it, and put it back in, it has done it, since the first minuted it's been started. The truck is a drift truck, I beat the hell out of it, and it puts down really good power. I haven't put it on my dyno yet, but I'm still waiting. I'm decent when it comes to working on motors, but like I've said, I am really stumped with this problem. I, nor anyone else can figure it out! It's getting turbo'd any time now, but I'm not putting the turbo on until it's running 100 percent, yanno?
Whats funny is, is that while it's doing the gurgle, my UEGO wideband really doesn't tell me much. At first, it used to fluctuate all over until I replaced my O2 sensors. Now, it's still pretty steady while gurgling, doesn't jump rich or lean at all.
Thanks again for any help.
