22RE Water Pump Studs: Torque or loc-tite?
I got a new water pump from the local parts store. It comes with the 6mm fan mounting studs loose in a bag. I notice that the fan mounting flange, into which the studs mount is made of aluminum. I seem to recall past attempts to seat these studs in an aluminum flange that resulted in the stud stripping out the aluminum. Should the studs be torqued to any particular value into the flange or just snug? Or just snug with loc-tite?

Seems as I recall, they do have a specific torque value. Even then, there are a couple that are torqued more than the rest, but the difference is negligable considering the torque value is so light. Like Yoda said, snug 'em up with loctite. I like to use RTV along with the gasket, as well. Supersealed, baby!

I wouldnt use RTV on the water pump. After two attempts with RTV and the seal busting out both times I've done every water pump install using just the gasket, no failures that way.
If you do use RTV use very little on the gasket!

Geez....I was reading so fast and half awake this morning I jumbled'ed the original post in my brain. Sorry for the confusion. Hadn't had my coffee, yet.
Yeah....studs won't come out. I meant loctite on the water pump bolts.
Also, there's no torque spec on the fan mounting studs that I've ever seen. Just the water pump bolts.
And, the RTV....it's funny... I've never had a problem using that with the gasket combined. Only when I've used the gasket alone have I eventually developed a leak.
Regardless, a light coat's all I've ever used on the back of the WP....then the gasket on that...and light coat on the timing cover. As well, I let it set up a little bit before I tighten the pump down.
