1993 3.0 stumble issue

93 4runner with 230,00 miles runs good except for a stumble at slow idle under a load, so i searched forums and tried disconecting the egr vaccum...solved problem plugged off vaccum port...so today when i accelerate theres no power then at like 3 grand it hits like a cannon. this isnt the usual high rpm pickup that usually happens. sometimes i have no power whatsoever and it idles fine....any ideas similar problems?

Ya, my 3.0 with 175k miles will run great until it is fully warmed up and then the performance drops off. It'll kind of stumble when I accelerate until the rpms are above 3000 or so. But if I shut the car off and then start it again it'll run good again for about 5 minutes then it comes back. I had a code 71 come up so I think I just need to clean out or replace the EGR valve and piping. Its just such a pain to get that thing off the exhaust manifold without taking the whole top of the engine off. Has your check engine light come on?

I had a "hit" like you describe at one time. It felt like a 2stroke motocrosser.

I changed out the spark plug wires and it was all fine after that. Used oem parts.

Not sure how old yours are, but the two-stroke hit could easily be related to poor spark at low rpm.

I've got my EGR by-passed (cork in the plenum hole,at connect point), did it for a slight hp gain at higher rpm, plus I'm legal doin' it where I live. No code on ECU here with it done like that. If you don't know how old that fuel filter is I bet that's it. Mine was full of $#@! when I changed it a week ago, don't know how long on that one, HUGE DIFFERENCE afterward.

mine was acting similarly (same mileage on my truck) and was recently tuned up. I had never changed the o2 sensor though, ever. I recently did....its a whole different truck!
