Stupid question, where is the rear defrost switch?
Ok, I have a 1984 4Runner and I have NO idea where the rearwindow deicer/defrost switch is. WTF? Nothing on the dash or the column on consol, so what gives?

Its a 1984 SR5 Package Runner. Wonder if maybe the back window is off of a later truck? I am a Cruiser guy so not sure what this Runner should have and doesnt have.

Does your cluster have a tach?
You already mentioned console and power antenna switch, so I'd guess it's an SR5 and should have a rear defroster (and switch.) Jeez, for the life of me I cannot find a pic of the left side of the dash.
I remember the window and wiper switch in the console, the antenna switch above the radio, to the left of the column was a blank (86+ was clutch start cancel,) below that (kinda up under) was the cargo light switch. To the FAR left was a little utterly useless recess where I put the power mirror switch when I installed them on mine (pwr mirrors weren't available yet in 85) and I *want* to say the rear window defrost switch was next to that. But my first reaction, before thinking about it, was that it was in the console with the wiper and window switch. But then I thought about it and it seems maybe it was up on the dash.

My manuals (Haynes, Clymers, FSM) aren't that detailed, no pictures or switch locations.
Okay, found some pics. Either of these 2 locations anyone?

If you do, try to get a later 80s switch. My 85 is on or off. My 87 has a timer as well. Next time I have my dash apart I'm going to see if I can put the timer equipped switch on my 85 wiring. My buddy's 84 SR5 doesn't have it either.

Follow the wires from the relay in the left quarter panel forward to switch plug. If it was next to rear window switch move to the left side dash pocket as the switch can't take spilled drinks in console. Have switch and pocket in red or grey for $10.00 plus $5.00 shipping.

First off, Hey everyone, new to this board, I'm usually over on 4x4wire. I have a 84 ext cab pickup and my defroster switch is on the left side of the dash. Question is, what the heck am I supposed to defrost with it? I have two wires coming out of the panel by the rear sliding glass, but the rear window isn't a defroster type. Put a meter on the wires and no voltage to them when I flip the switch. Could there be wiring running to the rear of the truck so if you had a shell with a rear defroster type window? Anyways, just something I've wondered about since getting the truck.

Nope, your truck most likely came with a fixed rear window (with defroster) and the slider was added, and they didn't pull the switch and put in a blank.

Didn't think of that, suppose it's the most likely answer. I've never owned a pickup without a rear slider and I don't think I've ever noticed a pickup with a rear defroster.
