LCD, thorley, trail gear, Stan's headers, etc. I'm more of a fan of tri-y header like the stock exhaust layout over the 4 into 1 like LCE and others make.

I know the Trail Gear header specifically can be used with air injection, and it also comes with a blockoffs incase you are fuel injected. I just smogged mine a few days ago with one on it.

depends if you get it smogged every 2 years. so it depends on the local laws. if the laws have it so that you get it smogged once and done after that who cares what you get. just search. if you try and get around to smog it and an unexperienced smog tech you could proly get an aftermarket header by them.

Having just invested in some new headers I'll tell you my experience. I went with Doug Thorley after some people in my build thread recommended them. The headers fit great on the manifold side however they have caused a change of angle on the CAT side where I now have to invest an additional $200 on getting a custom exhaust from the CAT back. If I had to do it all over again I probably would have gone with LCE. From what I hear they fit perfectly without having all the hassles I'm having. I've been running open headers since Saturday because all my local muffler guys are booked until tomorrow. Needless to say my neighbors aren't my biggest fans right now

Doug Thorley Header Joint Modification

It is safe to proclaim that for California the DT header is the only brand that has a smog compliant CARB number. But the slip joints and u-clamps leak and will through your O2 sensor off. So welding turbo flanges to the headers and pipes that use a tapered clamp band has done the trick. My 91 passed it's by-annual with a 2-1/2 Magnaflow CAT again using the same flange to join it to the header's y collector. While sorting the header I was using a new NTK O2 sensor which proved to be DOA. The tell tail was awful throttle response once it was warmed up and running closed loop. So I am unsure how critical the leaky joints might be and what is more DT did get the CARB exemption with the product as designed.
Just did a run to Gold Mountain in Big Bear on Saturday and got 16 MPG and 211 miles out of the tank full. This is the best mileage yet and the 100 miles to the trail head was up to 7,000 ft and mostly 70-75 MPH for the freeway portion. OEM gearing with 31's, BJ-spacers up front and Daystar spacers at the rear for an increased frontal area. K&N cold air intake with custom made airbox enclosure that is integrated with the OEM shroud that is behind the head lamp. Running 16 inch long muffler in place of CAT with restrictive Bosal OEM Cat back behind this. It has a great sound to it.
