Exclamation Rings? Low Oil Pressure, Be the Mr Miyagi to my karate kid

SO im having an oil pressure problem, it sits at the first quarter mark. This is a list of what i've looked at or fixed in the past week with no results
Changed Oil Pump
Oil Filter and running 10w-40
Cleaned pickup line and checked rod bearings(Looks fine)
Sprayed Brake cleaner on sending unit

Could it possibly be the rings goin bad?? BUT it doesnt smoke so how would that make sense?

It could be the pressure sensor itself going bad.

Have you checked your compression? If any cylinders are low, put a little oil in the spark plug hole and check again. If this brings the compression up your rings are the problem. If the compression stays the same its your valves.

Ring and pistons have nothing to do with oil pressure. Most all oil pressure is from the crank/rod bearings as well as the camshaft. The oil pressure sending unit diaphragm gets weak overtime and produce a skewed low reading. You may want to start there.

While the majority here prove a point, the fact of the matter is that you're running an electrically maneuvered oil pressure gauge. In general, electrically-transmitted gauge readings are inaccurate and/or very vague... this particular gauge you're working with is probably the worst of an already crude design.

1981-1983 22Rs came equipped with both gauges AND oil dummy lights on Sr5 packages... which means there are TWO spots for oil senders. I wopuld check and see if you're post-83 block still retains a spot for a second oil reading. Then grab yourself a cheapo oil pressure gauge that actually uses an oil line. These gauges actually have a numbering system and will RESPOND to motor revolutions.
