removing leaves from OME spring packs, bed back from paint

Got the bed back from paint, my dog seems to approve:

Still wanting a spring solution that doesn't lift the truck too much. Alcan can make me some stock springs, a pair is about the same price as (4) OME's. Anyone ever pulled leaves (leafs?) out of an OME/Dakar spring pack? Any reason it wouldn't be an easy way to negate some of the lift?
