piston rings/carb problems

My truck burns oil fast, fast enough that i need to bring 4 quarts extra on a wheeling trip. blue smoke burns. new piston rings correct? what size do i buy? Im looking on LCE website and they have different sizes. How do i know what size is for me...I have a 1985 22r carb.

The oyther problem is my carburator...i put it on my self and it ran fine for a couple of weeks then i started getting reall bad gas milage...after i got tired of that for about a month i took my truck to a carb place and they adjusted it and it was great and my truck had more horsepower then ever and was all around more zippy. but again after a couple of weeks it went to crap again. What can be happing? I dont know much about carbs and i espcailly dont no what ever tube is so ill ahve to be walked through it.

Thank you.

correct, blue smoke is oil. usually either the valve seals or rings, but excessive smoke is almost definitely the rings.

if you're a little mechanically inclined, you could rebuild the engine for not much more effort than putting in piston rings. for an '85 a complete rebuild kit runs around $220 from engnbldr. just get a good book(factory service manual is the best but a chiltons is OK) and take it slow, it'll give you a lot of intimate knowledge of your engine.
