permatex for valve cover seal?

permatex for valve cover seal?

What are the thoughts on this. Do i need it or not? Trying to find out before i put it on in the next hour or so.

Hey might help. I have always used sealant to secure the gasket in the valve cover.

Yes! there are 4 spots that the FSM specifies need a little FIPG or (I used) black rtv...

Yeah, if anything, it holds the gasket in place on the valve cover when you put it on the head.

oh ok... so put the sealer in the valve cover grooves that hold the gasket, but not on the head itself.

Is this correct? thanks

I only put gasket maker on the underside of the half moon pieces, if you put it in the groove on the valve cover its going to be a pain in the ass to get it out when you eventually change the gasket down the road.

i put it on the underside in the groves to hold it in. I also put permatex in the half moon pieces too.

It won't hurt anything but its not necessary to put it in the valve cover groove.
