Out of the blue, 4runner dies, almost catches FIRE!
Drove 60mi last night, parked it. Woke up to go to work, drove 12 blocks truck dies. wtf? Will not start. Push it off the road, pop the hood... Smoke coming off the - lead, try to grap it to see if I can yank it off with out a wrench (oh, I have yet to buy an extinguisher!) and flames pop up!!!
Great.........I'm thinking at this point I'll be lucky if my runner doesn't burn to the ground and I at least fried my red top, hopefully not the ECU.
Long story short... walked home got a spare battery, swapped it out and it startis right up! Drove to interstate batteries shop, got the red top tested it checks out FINE! Hmm..... what happned?
The OEM batt hold down bracked shifted and shorted out on the + lead!!!
When I got the truck it came with a bungee holding down the battery. I replaced it with the OEM bracket b/c thats just me, I don't like getto fix its.
Well, I'm went back to the bungee till I instal the nylon strap I got today.
Lesson? Do yourself a favor and take those things OFF! What a hazard.

Oh, I'd be devastated if it cought fire 12 blcks from my house, especially I almost got it dialed in (new clutch, stereo, tires, rims, etc, etc.)
I also got rubber cap protectors for the leads, so with that and the nylon strap I think I'm set. Got a new ground cabel too.
