Is my coil bad?

Is my coil bad?
My 85 runner just started acting up. At the top end of each gear at about 2800-3000 rpm, the engine is cutting out, stuttering, like I remember experiencing with my old Volkswagen that had a bad coil. Is that what this is here or could it be something else? Thanks for the help!

Guys at work ask if this has a crankcase sensor, they indicate that could be a problem location if it exist. Yesterday driving home in blinding snow it was a very big problem, cutting out consistently. This morning, still snowing, driving to the wife's business to shovel out, it was still snowing good, same problem. 2 hours later, stopped snowing, sunny almost, ran very well on the drive home, later driving to work, dry out, ran perfect.?

It has to be a coil or distributor cap. It has been sunny and dry for two days and its running great. My weekend starts tomorrow and I'll try spraying some water on it to test. I'll also take a look at night for any arcing. Anything else?

Okay, after several days of nice weather and care free wheeling, it snowed on my way home from work and it ran like hell. I mean like constant stuttering. It's only two miles home and I wondered if I would make it. So when I got home, midnight, I grabbed a light, popped open the hood and looked around. Dry inside, wires, distributor, coil, all dry. Began looking around and found the horn, yes the horn, an after market German thing, was loose on its bracket swinging back and forth rubbing the wires bare against the body. Tightened it up and took off driving again, the snow had stopped, it ran great. Go figure. I still consider it a mystery.

UPDATE: The mechanic at work, after I told him about my troubles, hands me a bottle of Wynn's Hi Volt ignition leak detection fluid. Just spray it on the ignition system piece by piece he says. It will show up quick. Sure enough the #3 wire began arcing on the power steering pump. Fished out some old wires and replaced #3 for now, running great.
