While changing out my valve cover gasket I found some sort of emissions device that attaches to the lower part of the air cleaner assy broken in two.
The only way to describe this part is it has a hose going out the top going into the air cleaner and another going back into the intake manifold and it looks like a black air chamber of some sort. It has a directional arrow on it with the word UP

It's also located next to the battery. It looks like someone repaired it once already since it has ? of JB Weld and bondo on it. I plan to order a new one, but can I still drive my truck? I noticed when I started the truck it was loud, but went away as it warmed up.

It sounds like your talking about the resonator, you can drive with out it, but it will be a little loud with out it. i would try a wrecking yard for this part, it will be cheaper than the dealer.

Found one at pick and pull for $3.00 that was mint, and right after I put it in. The Toyota gods were not on my side because I broke my A/C bezel with my finger while installing an A/C switch. Pick and pull had none of those laying around.
