85 22re Temp gauge issues after blown HG

I blew the HG in my truck(85 toy p/u w/22re). I replaced the timing chain, guides and tensioner while I had it torn down.

Now that I have it all back together and running, my temp gauge won't move. I took the T-stat out and tested it. It opened and closed like it should. I have the correct tension on the belt for the water pump. I did not replace the water pump b/c it was less than a year old.

The upper radiator hose (that leads from the t-stat housing) gets hot and is pressurized once the engine gets warm.

Anyone have any ideas on what would be the problem or cause the gauge to not work?

Did you "burp" the system, or get all the air out of the cooling system?

I was squeezing the upper rad hose when I was filling up the rad to get all 8.9 qts of fluid in it.

I also broke the connecttor housing for thermo switch#1. To get the connector to stay on the switch I had to use some elect tape. I planned on replacing the connector since its broke. Could I be getting a bad connection between the switch and connector causing the temp gauge to not read?

The broken connector would be my guess. Can you just crimp on a connector to fit over the terminal..kind of like a speaker wire. That what I had to do to sensor in the thermostat housing.

I'll just buy a new connector. I'm gonna test the thermo switch(1) too.
