Oil filter. 22R. 1981
I did a quick search here but couldn't find anything on oil filters, the recommended Fram oil filter for my engine (PH 3614) is a little on the small side and I notice there's lots of room for a larger one, does anyone know if there's a larger filter I can swap for the stocker ?

Fram PH8A, the most common filter out there will fit and function just fine.
Just check the box of whatever brand you like for cross reference numbers for the Fram PH8A. Thats what I run on mine. Just remember to add an extra bit of oil to offset the additional volume of the filter.

STAY WITH THE SMALL FILTER !!!!!
oil pressure is quicker to reach max pressure on initial start up with the smaller filter vrs the larger .. WAY more important .. as we know with the chain issues these engines have .
I ask anyone out there to show me a small filter that has been cloged or some sort of flow restriction .. under normal conditions , with proper interval oil changes .
small filter is WAYYYY better on these engines .

My Tundra, with a 4.7l v8 runs the same 3614 filter as the 22r (I run the TG3614 on both trucks) and after almost 90k miles of fairly rough driving, I have never had a problem with it.
If it will filter the oil efficiently enough for a v8 of almost twice the displacement of the 22r, it should handle the 4cyl just fine.

Thanks for all your advice everyone, I'll stick with the stock size filter after all, I just come from a world of big block muscle cars and we always tricked them out with dual remotes and wire braids, maby if it were a vertically mounted filter that retained it's oil it might be an idea going bigger.
