machine shop info zinc and oill filters

I picked up my block from the machine shop and was asking the owner about oils, He tells me that the newer oil have less zinc in them, and the oil companys are taking it out because zinc is hard on catalytic converters. Since I don't have one I should add zinc to my oil, so He give me a small bottle of "zddplus".
And He also tells me to use a high quality oil filter that has a anti siphon valve with was news to me. It keeps the oil from draining out of your filter, when it been parked for a while.
link to zddplus useful info http://www.zddplus.com/

never heard of it , but I do us an additive .. * Lucas oil additive .. it is absolutly awesome stuff .

I also concure with the filter advice .. use the original Toyota filter , and dont be fooled by it's size ... in this case , size does matter . The smaller toyota filter , has the anti drain back valve , and because of it's size , it allows for almost intanious oil pressure to the first "link" in the oiling system .. the timing chain .. very important .

I agree with slacker about the lucas products, I love them and have been using them for years. I use royal purple oil and red-line tranny lube, lucas diff oils and when I want to clean my fuel or oil system I use sea-foam. If you put the sea foam in the oil system, you add it just like you would regular oil, it will cause the vehicle to smoke a tad, but it will stop. You should see how much cleaning this stuff does, I have some pictures of before and after valves and heads when using this stuff. Really great.

As for the zinc, that's all new news to me. I will definately look into it. Great heads up.

I did a google search on zinc and came across a corvette site that was discussing it, htey even had emails from valvoline, has a racingoil called vr1 that higher in zinc, which most of them use.

there typically is some blow by the rings which exits through the exhaust, which gets worse as the motor gets more miles on it, the new cars are warranty sometimes for a lot of miles so it is a concern for the car makers.
