How to make your '83 yoda 4x4 more quiet - Sound Deadening!

After driving my truck for the last five years, I was tired of the cabin being so loud. Most of the annoying noise came from the engine and transmission. I ordered two different materials from “B-Quiet.” The first was the B-Quiet Ultimate (dampener) to prevent the metal panels from vibrating and the second was B-Quiet Vcomp (closed cell foam/mass loaded vinyl) to absorb and block sound from entering the cabin. I started with the floor and doors then removed the dash and covered the firewall. I added two layers of B-Quiet Vcomp over the transmission tunnel since the tranny was a huge sound offender. It came out awesome and the truck is much quieter. The sound from the engine and transmission has been substantially muffled. This material is basically the same stuff from Dynamat, but I bought 50sq. feet of each material for $375 as opposed to spending over $1,000. Next on my list is to install and Old Man Emu suspension kit. This truck is basically all stock and yesterday I replaced the original radiator! Back in 2006 a bought the truck from the guy who drove her off the lot back in 1983. Best purchase ever!

cool...the 1st layer, the silver backed material, looks extremely similar to "Peal and Seal" a roofing material used by a few members as a poor man's Dynamat. though yours could be a little thicker.

Link to B Quiet
I like the closed cel material idea. I have several old Army Poly pads that might see a new use

Your truck must be like a BMW or something nice now. with my dual cases with solid T/C and Engine mounts sometimes I wonder if I should wear ear plugs

Thanks guys! Going down the freeway now the wind noise overpowers the sound of the transmission and engine. Next weekend I'm going to install more material behind the seat to fully enclose the cab, besides the roof that is. The key to making the cab quiet is to try to form a seamless barrier to block the sound. Its like making sure earplugs fully expand in the ear canal, if there is a gap then the sound will find a way inside.

@ocdropzone - Unfortunately it's not as quiet as a BMW, but fortunately it's way cooler! Before I did all this work, when I would drive on the freeway I would wear earplugs.

@TinMan - I didn't replace the heater core. In retrospect I probably should have since I had it apart, but I was too excited to put everything back together and get it on the road to check the results.
