Gear decision...... 4.56 or 4.88?

I just put a set of 33x12.50 on my 83 4WD and now I am looking at new rear end gears for it. I looked at several posts and most people go with either the 4.56 or 4.88 with 33's. One post said a 33's with 4.88 matches the stock setup of 28's with 4.10 so I'm kinda leaning towards the 4.88 setup. I live in Memphis and its pretty flat with some hills. Any opinions on gears or how hard it is to install? I'm no mechanic genius but I can figure things out pretty good. What about good places to look for these gear as a kit or a used part?

You will need front and rear gears to use 4WD.
Lots of tech info on gears if you'll search a tad.

4.88
Check out ZUK's site gearistalls.com
Pulling/. Replacing thirds is easy, setting up gears requires a lot of specialized tool.. I wOuld recommend paying to have them set up..

Rest of the info is out there, search

I run 4:88 with 33 or 31 inch tires. If your going to spend the money put Posi's in the front and rear differentials at the same time. Do not buy gears that have a spacer-they break. I have my setuo installed for 25+ years and no problems.

I did 4.88s on my 94 when i lifted and they did pretty well with my tsl bias 33x12.50, even though the tsl bias is actually a 33.8. It wasn't too difficult to do because i bought the rear from davez offroad and bought the install kit for the 7.5 add up front. I'm probly going to do it again with my 84 and go with 4.88 again until it becomes a dedicated crawler.

What is your guys opinion on this?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOYOTA-8-INC...r#ht_680wt_952

I found a thread in Pirate 4x4 that seems to suggest they are a good product. I guess the only thing I need to know is of that listing contains everything that is needed to install? I can have the local 4 wheel parts put them in for me.

a mini install kit is pointless, why would you want to put 30 year old bearings with a new gear set? and that set doesn't even come with a crush sleeve or a solid sleeve (preferred)
Good luck on getting 4 Wheel parts to guarantee that install on something they didn't sell...

I dont plan to get it right now I was just making sure I know where to get it when the time comes. The guy has a normal website with it on it besides eBay. Think he sells them without the little kits too.

I have Yukon 5.29s in my 81 with 33s. Also ran them with 31s for a while too.
