EGR sys causing a vacum leak ??
Hey guys i know this is probabally a dumb question but on my 1982 4x4 22r, the egr valve coming off the head the tube that runs from it to the intake is missing, and i can feel air pulsing out of it, and the plate on the intake where the tube bolts to the intake is missing. I plugged the hole temporarily, but if that plate on the intake is missing, cant that cause a vac leak ? as for the egr itself, cant it be causing a vacum leak by air seeping back into it ??
Any help would be mad appreciated.

I'm having a little bit of a hard time picturing what you're talking about, but yes, absolutely. If something is open in that system, your truck won't run well.

2 things about that could cause your engine to run poorly:
Vacuum leak to the intake
possible exhaust backpressure issue.
Replace the EGR tube, or if this is offroad use only, block off plates under the EGR, at the tube into the intake, and at the pair ports on the header.

It's the actual egr valve, it is open coming from the valve to that tube. And the tube where it bolts to the intake, that oval two bolt flange is missing completely . It looks to be a small hole in the intake. I plugged it basically I guess warm air is coming out of the egr system and is not going into the intake. I didn't realize that it made it run that poor. Thanks for the help zac. I ordered the lce egr deletes, but I was wondering why it ran so ˟˟˟˟ty here lately

Ah. Do you know how the EGR works? 'Cause I don't
Basically, once the engine is warmed up, the egr valve opens and lets some exaust gas go back into the mix/combustion chamber. Is supposed to be better for emissions, and help the truck run cooler.
In reality, they just end up clogging up with carbon and don't work anyways. If the egr valve gets clogged in the open position, your truck will run very poorly, and possibly not start at all. If, like mine, it's stuck in the closed position, then it's non-functional, and essentially deleted without the extra work.
Photos help a ton. Since I don't really drive my truck in the winter and haven't worked on the egr in a while, it's not all fresh in my head. Sounds like you've got it figured out, though.

I appreciate the help guys, a friend of mine is a former toyota tech, he was saying that the egr sys isnt supposed to be running the whole time anyhow, and that more or less with that leak i am losing exhaust backpressure, like you said pumkin, and that i more or less have half of a cylinder missing, i agreed because in between that and that vac leak, the afr, is wayy off and it feels like it. I will keep u guys posted i cant figure out how to resize photos because i am not super computer savvy, but if i do i will shoot some up on here, egr deleltes are in and carb will nbe here thursday.. wish me luck lol !
