distributor drive gear help!

Hi all, well i've been driving with a missing tooth on my distributor drive gear, the one the distributor shaft gear rides on, anyway, I want to replace it but the only place I found outside of ebay its 45 dollars! anyone know of a lower price? will it hurt to drive with a tooth gone? im gonna pull the vc agian because a guy I know said hes almost positive the tooth is in the pool of oil right below it where the hiden timing cover bolt is.

Yes it is bad. Find the missing piece! I would just find a good used distributor and roll with it

It's the "drive" gear that he's referring to, not the "driven" gear. Another distributor won't correct the problem.

Yeah, check that pool of oil. I'll be interested to see if you find anything there. Sometimes you've got to just bite the bullet and pay the cash. But my suggestion to you would be what it is to everyone...this site, the Marlin Crawler forum, Pirate4x4, craigslist. Somebody's got one for you for cheaper. If the "practically anything you want" thread is still kicking around on the Marlin site, try it. I got a huge package of all the little stuff my truck was missing from them.

i would look at both gears. because something made that gear brake so to really be on the safe side you may want to find both gears. casue if you dont find what broke it then theres a chance it will happen again. i was told when in school if you replace one gear you need to replace all gears touching. just to be on the safe side.

the distributor is new, the accident caused the dist. to break and that caused the drive gear tooth to break off, the dist driven gear on the old dist. was fine, but now its replaced anyway. how easy is it to replace the driven gear? the washer seems to be sold seperatly but mine should be fine right?

anyone know if the dist. drive gear on a 84 will be the same as my 82?? thanks

well I see one on ebay but it says fits 84-95?????? so it does indeed fit 82? I do know that after 82 it went to a single row timing chain and not double.

Distributor drive gear

How common is it to break the little dowl thats on the backside of the drive gear? has anyone had it happen? what could cause it to break.... thank you

I have many good drive gears I will sell to you for $20 shipped.........do you have paypal can drop in mail same day if so......also if its from a 22R it fits I mix and match my parts often on my 22r frankenstiens....E-mail is better bobrobertz@msn.com I check my mail daily at 5pm

i found the gear at a pick and pull. i was putting it back together and relized the pin on my cam is busted as well. so did a compression check and found out water was commin out of number 4..... hopin its not my head gasket again, this one is only a few thousand miles old

^Man you got all kinds of probs... A dist is something you don't wanna go cheap on, but if you can get it out of a junk yard you know its oem toyota so there you go you did good. How do you know "water" is getting into #4 cyl. Pressurize that cyl with air and see if theres bubbles coming out the rad cap. Check oil? Take plug out and see.

45$ is not alot for that distributor i'd buy it... just make sure you know what your doing when you put the dist in and out... don't break it again...

started by pressurizing number 1 and saw the water was comming out of the back and top of motor ( the valve cover and cam were out while doing this) so i press. #4 and water was comming out and it wasnt holdin pressure at all.
