82, no charge lamp relay? Lights on, charge fine
I have a customer that has an 82 pick-up with camper body. Original problem was no charging, 12 volts while running and customer replaced the alternator and external voltage regulator. After a while i figured out that someone cut the charge wire to the alternator in half to feed to another power for the camper body that was disconnected. I put the wire back togther and it charges fine now BUT the charge and brake lights are still on. Ive been all over under the dash and cannot find a charge lamp relay. Found everything else but no lamp relay and there isnt much under this dash either.
Now if this were my truck is pull the bulbs and put in a guage. I suggested this to the customer but he doesnt seem to understand my logic. Even though ive shown him on a meter it is charging now, he doesnt believe me because the lights are still on. With all this he doesnt want to pay for anything because he doesnt believe i did anything. So, i have to get these lights out, but im at a loss for what to do with it.

I have an 82 and can't get my lights off either but also can't figure out why it isn't charging..changed the voltage regulator and altenator , and the electrical box under the coil, when the lights do go off it will charge but now they wont go off at all..trying to find out if the charge lamp relay has anything to do with that..not known about this part until tonight

Charge light relay should be on the driver's side kick panel above the ECM. The relay is black and has a small metal bracket that attaches to the panel / body. There is a Diode in the charge light circuit that could cause your problem even if the relay is okay. Diode is down stream of light but above relay contact circuit. Yellow wire or Yellow / White wire circuit.
