80 toyota 4x4 trans question

just bought a 80 toyota 4x4 pickup, runs good but the shifter has a lot of slop in it, i took it a part and the steel ball on bottom of the shifter is wore out, this is one that the shifter sits on the side of the transmission, can you buy the hole shifter and just bolt it on, if so where...

The shifter seat bushing has probably just worn a way, you can get new ones from Marlin Crawler.

I had a similar problem on my 81. (pited/worn and would pop out of gear.)Tried the new seat and it would not stay on. I actually picked one up at my local stealership. They had it on the shelf. Worth a try.

marlin does not list the shifter seat bushing kit for a L-43 side shifted, only 81+ 5 speeds

To the OP, you might try some of these guys:

trans

i think i got it figured out, i took it apart and welded the wallard groves up and grinded it back down smooth and strait, took about 80percent of the slop out and is working well, the pins that run in the grooves could be replaced and would prob take the other 20 percent out but is working so well i think i will leave it alone thanks for the help
