We need a lot more info here. What engine tranny, 4runner or pickup or what, and which red light is on?

well the title of the thread in 1981 4x4 dash sensor light so that eliminates a 4Runner by 3 years.

And "red" should rule out 4x4 light since it's usually green. Which light? If it's the brake light, did you try adding brake fluid? Oil light? Hope you're not driving it around that way! Charge? Battery & alternator fine? Which light?! If in '81 the 4x4 light was red, then yeah, make sure you're fully out of 4x4. Otherwise you can look at replacing the faulty sending unit causing the light to come on.

It is the sensor light that is glowing red. This is on my 1981 4x4 truck. I believe it has something to do with emissions and is a idiot light that I would like to turn off. Any help would be appreciated.

So there's a light on you dash that says "Sensor" and is glowing red? Never seen that light. I had a 79 or 80 instrument cluster that didn't have that light, and my 83 doesn't have it, so I guess I'm no help.
Have you removed your emissions? Otherwise it may be trying to tell you something. If you just aren't worried about it, find yourself an FSM (factory service manual) or find someone who has one. It will tell you which wire goes to that light and you can just cut it. OR- pull the cluster (you'd just need to undo a few screws and pull the speedo cable), and take out the lightbulb that's right behind where that light is on the cluster. Might be a little trial and error, but it should be pretty easy to tell which bulb goes to which idiot light.
