After buying my clear tail lights, i was was looking for some sort of brighter bulbs too and came across this
auction.
I asked the seller about the bulbs he was including and this was his reply:

"They are from a company called Darkside Motoring in Southern
California. Their website address is http://darksidemotoring.com

If I remember correctly, the bulbs are like $15 each. I needed 4
bulbs;
(2) amber and (2) red. The total was just under $60 for the set. I
was
instructed to use my stock white bulbs as the remaining pair. Give
them
a call, and good luck!"

That seller just happened to join the forum not very long ago under the name ErikJeanna.

I havent bought them myself but i think i will once i get around to hooking up my clears.

Or heck maybe Ill just sell these stupid taillights and go back to stock. There worth what ? $200 on ebay now ?

$200 would be kinda cheap. I bought/won mine (new) for $358 shipped and the second highest bidder was still willing to buy them from me for even more if i decided not to keep them.

You do have one nice looking 4runner and your clears make it look sweet! You should definitely keep them.

I'll call up that place and see what they have to say about their bulbs, prices, etc..
If you do it first let me know.

If worst comes to worse, you could always use that red translucent paint. You've probably seen threads where guys painted over their stock orange lights...

Hummer, jusy got off the phone with 'DarksideMotoring'....the guy said he gets calls all the time about bulbs for clear tail lights. The ones shown in this auction are called BI Hybrid (made in Japan) and cost $9.99 per bulb. He said they are 100% red glass (not coated) so they wont fade.
He also sells LED bulbs but said theres no guarantee they will work properly...theres a chance they will always stay on or not funtion as a normal brake light should. Found some on ebay... LED 1157

I think the BI Hybrids should work better than what you've tried so far.
For $20+ shipping its worth a try.

Well there goes that Idea. I can't belive only a couple people have replied to this thread out of all the clear tail light owners.

There must be a solution to what appears to be a common problem.

I use thes bulbs that have a bunch of Japenese writing on the package and they are awsome! I got them at a tune shop for $10 each and have had them for a year now and finally burned one out but they never faded that whole time. LEDs really do suck for daytime visability. Mine are just as bright or brighter than standard bulbs in the day time. I could send you a picture of the package if you want.

Sorry I never got back to you but I have the package for my lights in my hand. The brand is B1 Hybrid and they are MORE visable in the day than a standard tail light in the day if you ask me. They will never fade. I had mine for 2 years before I finally burned one out and to the last day it was still flawless in color and brightness. If it wasn't for these bulbs, I wouldn't run clears eather...

My friend had these guys build LED tail lights and turn signals for his 204SX. They do AWESOME work and it's brighter than standard bulbs. But, you pay a premium for top notch quality.
