2 weeks ago the truck would turn over but would not fire. Pulled the main wire off of the distributor(the one from the coil) and grounded it. No spark. 30 minutes later, the truck fired up. A week ago it did the same thing. I put on a new distributor cap and rotor. It fired up. A few days ago I was driving it and it died. Took a wire off of one of the plugs and don't get a spark. Checked all the fuses. would like to see if coil is getting power but I don't want to fry anything. I think I put the positive probe from the multimeter on the black wire going from the ignitor to the coil. And the negative probe on the meter to a ground. Is that right? If the coil is not getting power I was wondering if I should check to see of the ignitor is getting power but I don't know how to do this. I've also read that the problem could be the pickup coil inside the distributor. Do you know how to test to see if this is good? Any other suggestions?
