Fitting into my garage was an issue with my roof rack mounted on top of the luggage rack crossbars. The solution was to remove the crossbars and simply mount the rack direct to the roof rails.

Front view of the Costco purchased Coleman Safari Rack (about $70). I don't use the front fairing-my sunroof wind deflector does a good job of directing airflow up and over the empty rack.

the Safari Rack does not sit exactly "square" to the roof rails so I improvised at one corner with this hardware piece. It's a simple electrical type of clamp to attach the rack to the rail.
