well my current cluster doesnt even have an oil level or pressure gauge. so unless it's already wired up for one and all I have to do is plug it in, do I really even have to bother, or...? Lol yeah really have no idea bout this cluster stuff, just REALLY want a tach lmao.

screws that hold on the trim around (in front of the cluster) - 3 at the bottom, one left hand side.
two screws at the top of the cluster itself, above the "glass" - go into the dash.
Pull the trim off.
You'll expose 4 screws that hold in the cluster itself.
Unscrew it.
Disconnect 3 ribbon type cable connectors.
Give it the reach around, you need to get to the speedo cable and squeeze it to release.
Should be good to go after that. How much at pick and pull?

No idea, but I'm a decent haggler. Never ridden coach, but never paid for first class

Folks at the picknpull here in san antonio are alot like the folks at fleamarkets. Willing to take just about anything, long as they get SOMETHING.

No, you might want to do a web search on the sr5 cluster swap.
Your current setup has an idiot light. The idiot light (oil) is triggered by a switch on the block.
If you put in the SR5 cluster and leave the idiot light switch, it's likely that you'll fry the oil pressure part of the cluster.
Get the oil pressure sender from the SR5 also - it's much easier than trying to chase one of a bunch of different part numbers later.

Unplug your oil pressure sender (idiot light switch) before installing.

I work in North Austin. I live out in Lago Vista, on the north shore of Lake Travis.

Ohh beautiful area. Yeah I spend bout half my time at my uncle's house off Bee Cave and 360. Love it out there much better than here in San Antonio lol...

Anyoo, found a writeup for the cluster swap.

Doing the SR-5 Gauge Cluster Swap... HOW TO with pictures.

And would THIS be the oil sending unit that I need?

The $10.99 one?

I did the sr5 swap on my junk, I didn't get the sensor from the vehicle.
I spend over $70 trying to find the right aftermarket sensor (NAPA/autozone) - wasn't happy with the outcome.
The dealer wants $70 for a sensor and still couldn't tell me the right one (out of 3) to get.

Get the one from the truck, if at all possible... save yourself some hassle!

Ah. 10-4. So, remove dash thingamajigger, unscrew the cluster, unplug 3 ribbon cables, unplug the mech. spedo cable, and take the oil sending unit, and I'm groovy to go? Sounds almost too easy.

You might have to add the tachometer cable from the coil. Some trucks have, 'em some dont.

carbed engines require the coil wire hook up, efi is plug n play. also auto to auto, manual to manual. no switchty switchy between the two.

Well, got er out, but didn't actually get it (forgot my dang wallet! There were nearly tears I tell ya). Took me all of 5 minutes to getter outta there though. Those dang screws were frozen in there, so I broke the plexiglass and ripped the dash apart. I hid it pretty well so no one will probably take it before I can go back to get it. Which is probably just as well, cause I forgot to get the oil sending unit. But I did open the hood, and yep it's an efi 22re. But for the life of me I can't remember if it was manual or auto tranny (was in a hurry). So don't get it if it's an auto (since I have a manual)? No mismatchin whatsoever on that part?

I think the tach will work if you mix auto/manual - but there are other functions that don't work right.

It was a manual. I remember because I was thinking about taking the tranny/t-case out of it too when I got those hubs from it :-).

I think the main difference between the 2 is the auto cluster has the ECT lights instead of one of the gauges.

When you swap it into your truck pop the speedo cable out of the retainer clip on the firewall and feed a little extra into the cab, that extra will make it alot easier to hook it back up. Just make sure you hook it back into the retainer after you're done. Also, I would recommend replacing the bulbs while you have it out. You can use different color bulbs for the backlighting if you want (they are 194s). I went with red for night driving.

On the sensor, I just went to my parts place and said I needed a Oil Pressure sensor for an 87 4Runner 4 cyl with guage and didn't have a problem.

Awesome. Guess its a manual then. Thanks for the advice amgraham. Probably get red bulbs, so it'll match my radio. And I'll just try the oil sending unit that comes off that truck. If it doesn't work, then I'll go and get a new one.

I have an 89 22re, that is EFI, and I did not have a tach wire when I installed my cluster, so that isnt always the case.
