Oil leaks common on the 3.4L?
I guess I am just paranoid, but I think I am going to go with the white 96' T100 w/184K for $6300. I looked at it again tonight (at the lot) shined the headlights on it and looked under it again. I did not see any drips under it, but it looked like a spot on the road under it. It did not look wet, so I cannot say whether or not it was leaking out of the T.... it may have been out of something else It appeard to be directly under the oil pan, but there were no drips that I could see.
Could it have been leaking on up there somewhere and/or could it have leaked when first shut off (like on Friday) and then stopped after the engine cooled? When I tested drove it that day, I did not see any drips on our driveway when I brought it home, so as mentioned, I assume it is OK and I am just paranoid. Lets say it was an oil leak, what could it likely be (rear seal ?) and how difficult to repair? I would think if it was the rear seal that it would be further back. I am guessing that the spot I saw was at the back of the front tires, but in the middle of the truck.

It could just be a drip from the oil drain plug, if it came from that truck at all. Throw a creeper in your rig and get under that T100 with a flashlight and look for any drips or wet areas. That will tell you everything you need to know.

i had the seal on my oil drain plug replaced.. it was leaking.. yes that is a known thing to happen with t100s, my neighbor who is my dads best friend has a t100 same year as mine and he has to replace his drain plug seal..

Another spot to check is the rear part of the valve cover gasket. Stand on the passenger side of the engine bay near the firewall and look at the back of the engine/cylinder head area. Mine leaked after I had the valves adjusted (they re-used the old rubber gasket). I spent a Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago installing new valve cover gaskets with FIPG in all the right spots. (Form In Place Gasket).

My T-100 did that, too. It would cause the brake lining to swell up and lock up the rear wheel. Finally rebuilt the rear end (new axle bearings, seals etc.) and it stopped doing it.
