I was reading a post a few days back while looking for some rear leafsprings and somebody mentioned that you could use 88-98 chevy 1/2 ton 2wd and 4wd rear leafsprings instead of toyota ones. So I decided to see if there was anybody out there who could offer more info on this point, but it also got me wondering if anybody knows of parts we can steel from other makes that go into toy pickups without much hassle or reworking.

Stuff like a 302 for v8 supposedly goes in with just heavier duty engine mounts and a new bellhousing, but smaller items too.

for the chevy springs, you would most likely have to remount your shackles-not that, OR SAFE unless you are an experianced welder. As far as other parts. Personaly, I would stick with Toyota! just my oppinion. GL-Hiriden

 

There are different springs from different trucks you can use.
Some if not all of them will require you to remove your existing hanger and weld a New one to a different location.

A lot of people run Chevy springs, they are longer than Toyota, 63" if i remember right to Toyota's 43" (iirr). This gives you better Articulation out back.

We have used ford F-150 springs on my brothers truck. do not remember the length, believe they where 2wd.

We did the same thing in a buddies 82, and used jeep wagoner springs on the front.

The other thing you will have to do is get new shocks. When we did my brothers he got longer shocks and we mounted them different.

Best thing to possibly do is search here for leaf springs. A couple other sites like pirate and 4crawler always seem to hold a wealth of info also.

But do some more research to confirm everything and good luck.

 

Thanks, I think I will end up sticking with stock springs for now, found somebody with them in PA and there is a old 4runner sitting in the tall grass up the road I need to go check out might have some good springs there as well.

As for other parts from other makes this is more of a curiousity, figure the information might come in handy some day, parts are scare around here sometimes.
