Tires for moms SUV

Hey guys,

Been awhile since I posted but things have been crazy here for me.

Anyway, my mom is needed to get some new tires for her Honda Pilot. I am trying to convince her to get the Bridgestone Dueler A/T's but she is afraid they will be too aggressive for her 90% highway/city driving. She has the stock Goodyear Integrity tires on there now and she has had 2 flats per tire. She lives on a really rough, hardly ever grated dirt road and I admit, it's pretty rough terrain. I found the Dueler A/T's at Sam's for $115 a piece. I wanted to get the REVO's but they were not listed anywhere.

I know the REVO's are supposedly amazing so I'd like her to get those but just imagine if it was your mom who needed new tires on her SUV...would she think they were too loud? Too aggressive?

Thanks guys! I'll keep doing some searching but she wants to get them ordered by Wednesday and I knew a thread would get immediate results.

Later,

Fink

I would recommend the Firestone Destination LE. They will have a smooth ride and still have the Uni-T technology that the Revo is known for. They may lack a little in the off-road traction dept, but I think she will probably not be happy w/ the aggressive tread of the Revo.

Price them online and then go in with your quote and I am sure they will be happy to price match for you.

Let me know if I can do anything else for you. (Since I kinda have the hookup at Firestone)

**edit**
Don't go the Sam's route. Those tires are built specifically for them to their specifications! (READ: CHEAPO)

It's your mom - she's not an aggressive driver. It's also a Honda Pilot which is unibody which I could be wrong but it has IRS, so it has no articulation anyways.

I think the best tires a mom could get are the Michelin LTX M/S. EXTREMELY long lasting tire, handles/performs well in pretty much all types of weather. Has good sipes and channels water well. Lasts extremely long. Best bang for your bucks IMHO.

I put Michelin LTX M/S on my mom's pickup and my dad's suv, we took suv over the pass from Silverton to Lake city. I've also tested this tire on a mud course in Chevy Blazers and they did pretty darned good. The BFG AT's were my favorites and did best there but I was really impressed with highway tires that did better than some of the ATs.

They do hang onto (and later throw) gravel, though.

I agree the Michelin LTX M/S is a good tire, but I think you will get better value elsewhere.
For that kind of money, I would go w/ these.

As long as whatever I get is stronger than the crappy Integrity's she has on there now and will last a long time then thats a go.

What are the ply ratings of all of these...my main concern is the dirt road she lives on.

Thanks for all the recommendations, I've got some research to do.

235/75-15 Goodyear Wrangler At's - Best AT I have ever had... Good in Ice/snow/grave/dirt.... 31/10.5-15 Michelin LXT MS-Suck. I put them on after the goodyears no where near the same. After that 32/11.5-15 Roughrider AT (canadian tire) sucked worse than the Michelins. But best so far are the 33/12.5-15 Hercules Durango MT... BUt I still think that the best would be the goodyears. O Walmart sells an AT with some large lugs (just letting you know)

I have the michelin xradials on my 4runner. They are an awesome tire. They grip really well and and are super quiet. They also grip well in mud and loose gravel, but do tend to throw some rocks occasionally, which is nice when you have a tailgater behind you on a gravel road in road construction!

Look into Michelin Cross Terrains. They are the tires I had on mine when I bought it. I have abused them offroad and havent had a single flat tire. They arent the best offroad though, horrible when it comes to mud.

Agreed, IMO, probably the best road-biased LT on the market.

Ditto. My dad has 80k on a set of these without trouble, and they still have viable tread left. Super quiet, great ride. Not too bad in snow, either.

That said, I talked my mom into Revo's on her QX4. She loves them, no complaints. They come in a P-Metric flavor, too.

the michelin OE tires are the best tires for Toyota. Toyota has very very very strict guidelines that Michelin must follow. I would go with Michelins hands down. There is no price great enough to risk your mothers life. Dishout 700 for the LTXs or the cross terrains.

And most OEM gudielines consist of soft ride, very light, and as cheap as possible. LOL

Matt,

Do you get a commission from Michelin for this stuff?

Sams can order the revos. They also have them at costco.
My mom has wrangler at's on her jeep grand cheroee and they slip and slide in the rain as do michelin ltx my dad has on his f150- both sets purchased at sams. I removed the factory firestone at's that came on my excursion and replaced them with revos. They ride smooth do very well in rain and look good too. Get the revos for your mom.
