AC removal? 87 Auto

I've read that removing the belt and unhooking the AC in my truck will get better gas mileage? Living in New Jersey and never using my AC, I would think this would be a good option for me. Especially since The top is off all summer. But.... Will that in turn kill my heater for the winter? Gets Freezing here and I need the heat!

If you're not using the A/C removing the belt will not make much difference. With the A/C off the belt only turns a small part of the pulley and any gain would be very small. And no that won't affect your heater.
