What problems would I run in to if i where to cut some wholes in the dash to put something like a 6 inch componet speakers or some 5 1/4 inch speakers

 

It would look like $h!t...plus there is really no place to fit 5 1/4" speakers in the dash...

This is about the only mod you can make that doesn't intrude on the aesthetic look or into your footspace. They are for 4" speakers.

You can also try Q-Forms for the kick panels IF you have an automatic tranny; otherwise, they interfere with the clutch (and may be too invasive, anyway). you can use these enclosures with a high-quality 5 1/4 to 6" speaker for better sound. The only really effective way to get larger speakers is to put them in the back. I have a pair of Klipsch bookshelf speakers I use in the rear of my truck, along with 3 x 10" subs. I run 2 Pioneer 4" two-way speakers in the front.

 

I bought some high quality 4" components for the front of my truck, some 6x9's in the back and a 10" woofer. With all that packed into an extra cab, it sounded pretty good for the lack of airspace.

 

I have a reg cab pickup...And i have rockford fosgate punch 6.5s in doors, I think they are 2.25s in dash and 2 8in rockford p2s, with a 300 watt amp and a pioneer head unit...it all hits pretty damn hard too!!!! My neighbors complain!

 

Not to disparrage other products, but imo Qlogics stink! They are flimsy, overpriced and have COMPLETELY open backs. Aside from that I can build some kicks for you that will be far superior to them for 150 and if that's not an option, I can walk you through how to do it.

 

I replaced the dash speakers in my 95 runner with some 4" Diamond audio speakers and they sound great. They are pricey but you get what you pay for.

 

Well ok dash is out. What about doors? Is there enough space? My systems is a kenwood head with 4" audiobahn 2 ways in the front stock 6 inch in the rear with a set of pioneer 6x9's hooked up to a 300 watt pioneer amp and a 10 sub on a 200 watt MTX amp. It sounds really good but its un-balanced

 

unbalanced sounds about right....

i am running 4 inch pioneers up front...6x9's where the 5 1/4's were and a 12 inch JL behind the drivers seat all off of a MTX 5 channel amp. I don't see how you could get any better sound out of a pickup...

 

He is actually running a 4runner, we were sorta off topic. Anywho, I would get rid of your stock speakers in the back, Maybe even fit the 6x9 in the stock wholes (i dunno). If you keep a 5 speaker system (not including tweeters), it should sound good. In my pickup i had the sound biased to the front to sound the best. In my 3rd gen 4runner, i have the sound biased to the back. Whatever sounds best. If you get rid of one set of rear speakers, set a high pass filter on the other set of rear speakers around 45Hz, and set your woofer on a low pass filter around 50Hz, that should even out the tones quite a bit. Moving the fade to the front a bit will also quiet down the rear speakers a bit, and make the sound seem more centered.

If you can make any sense out of what I said, it should help.

 

I have a 3-way component system and I made pods to hold the 6'' woofers in the doors. Put the 4'' midwoofers in the stock location and the tweeters in the stock location in the trunk. Also a subwoofer in the cargo area. A nice improving in sound quality.

gregbreakseverything: One problem I'm having is my kenwood has two RCA out one Rear/Sub out and one frount out. The 6x9 in the back are powered off the frount out I'm sure there is a way to change that but I haven't figured it out.

 

does one of your amps have audio out jacks? If so, you could connect both amps together on one set of preouts. Ive never done this, but it seems like a cool idea.

Blizzard posted another thread this morning. There was alot more detail on how he created his masterpiece of a sound system.

 

Yeah I've done that before. Just as of now with my rear audio out set to sub its only sending out the low end. Its work a try though.

 

Take the filter off your deck so it sends all audio, then just tune the filter on your sub amp.

 

Yep, not all 4Runners had tweeters, mine didn't, but I used the location.

A friend of mine has a pre-92 4Runner without the tweeter holes. Also my truck didn't come with speaker enclosures and the average of V6's here in Spain have them but no tweeters.

A friend of mine has a 3.0TD VX 4Runner imported from Andorra, black (Very rare here) and with stock fender flares and so and he has the speaker enclosures and tweeters.

As for the pods, I bought them and changed the color of the... How is it named? We name that kind of material "sky", but you can easily do some pods with DM wood.
