Exhaust Price? plus weekend mods

I went up to a local exhaust place yesterday to see what he'd charge me for a nice Magnaflow system. He said he would give me a new high-flow cat, Magnaflow or Flowmaster (my choice) muffler and 2.25" pipe, installed for about $300. Is that a good deal? I got duels from my cat back, a new muffler and all the pipe, installed for $350 on my old Bronco so I dont know.

Over the last week I installed some Hella lights, and did the rear breather mod on my runner. I would post pics but I don't know how. Just wanted to throw that in there.

I paid $52 for my exhaust. It consisted of hacking off the stock muffler and welding in a glasspack. Sounds perfect in my opinion.

Click on my sig to see it.

You can also do a search on a thread I started a while back called "$52 Exhaust" for more info, if you want it.

Did he give you itemized pricing for the muffler and the cat? I think the cat is what's driving the price up. It sounds like a good deal. The cheapest cat-back system out there is about $250. You are getting that plus a hi-flo cat, installed for $50 more.

I stopped by another place today and they said they would do it for $270 leaving the stock cat, plus they don't carry Magnaflow, they said they had too many complaints about them. everyone on this forum seams to be happy with their Magnaflows

I got a dual exhaust put on my tacoma for 150+80 for the muffler. . .

I got a slightly noticable powerboost, slight = gas mileage and sounds great.

Would recomend what was said before about using a hacksaw and installing it yourself, MUCH MUCH MUCH CHEAPER!!!!!

ohhh-yeah don't even worry about trying for dual exhaust not worth the money or the trouble of relocating your spare!!!

I have no complaints on the Magnaflow, only praise.
I am on my 2nd one, but they are warranted for life.

The batch I had developed a crack, and I got it replaced.

Take note on the 2nd gens a setup costs us more because our rigs came with small 2" or smaller pipe from the cat back.
You want to ditch that pipe and go with 2.25" for the 3.0 V6.

3rd gens are lucky as they came with 2.25" from the cat back, and they only need to put in a new muffler.

I paid about $280 I believe for my Magnaflow and new 2.25" aluminized pipe from the cat back.

This spring of '99 I think when I had it done.
Well worth the $$$, and it's still getting better sounding as it ages.

If that price does include a new cat, got for it.

Here is a chart from Dynomax showing you the correct size tubing to use.
It shows 2.25" for our V6s.

98Tacoma, so thats duels from the cat back? do you have 2 mufflers or just one? I've thought about going with duels I would really love to do it, and I dont have to worry about the spare as mine is on a stock swing-away carrier.

so according to that chart if I do single exhaust I should use 2.25" pipe but if I do duels I should use 2", but what if I only do duels from the cat back? 2.25" or 2"?

I have the complete stock exhaust cat-back with the pictured glasspack welded into the stock muffler's location. I am telling you, this set-up sounds awesome. No resonance at highway speeds. Its only loud when you want it to be.

As for performace gains, maybe a few HP. I really dont know.

But for $52, I can put the money I would have have spent on a different exhaust towards headers!

Toyo......

don't think that's illegal unless it's really annoyingly loud....the purpose of the muffler is to muffle the sound hence muffler.

96..where did you get the glass pack?

I went back to the same exhaust place to see what he'd charge to do duels from the cat back. He said he'd do it for $300 but with no cat, thats the same price as single with a high-flow cat. I think I would like duels. How needed is a new cat? with duels what would look better, exit behind the rear wheels or straight out the back?

I got mine at Pep Boys for $20. I believe it was the 18" with 2.25 inlet/outlet.

I had a muffler shop in Phoenix weld it in, they charged me $30.

Like the other guys said, its not illegal unless you have a noise ordinance. But, I garantee its not louder than some of those ricers out there.

I will try and get the sound/movie up again. Corey said he couldnt accept Quick Time, so I will try and figure something else out.
