Is the 4.0 a grat high mileage motor

I want to be able to put 200K in 5 years on my FJ, and am wondering if it is possible. Is this motor bullet proof like the 4.7?

Ive never heard anything bad about the 4.0L V6. Everyone I have talked to loves it. To be honest, I wouldnt have any dependability concerns of any engine that says "Toyota" on it.

Sying Toyota doesn't make it good. My Mom has a 99 Avalon bought new & well maintained. The 3.0 with only 70,000 miles has blown 2 head gaskets, and had numerous oil leaks.

No, no. Toyota DOES make that engine. They make all their engine, I think. (Some of them were designed jointly with Yamaha though)
Thats not to say that Toyota doesnt have their fair share of problems here and there, but the 4.0L V6 has been a great engine for them.

Why would you want to put 200k miles on a motor in just 5 years? Especially a gas guzzler one.

To find out if the digital ODO goes that high. Doing it fast ensures that Toyota doesn't come up with a firmware upgrade in case there needs to be one .

yamaha is owned in part by toyota, iirc. they do design some of the engine components for them, mostly on hi-po engines(like the 18RG twin cam)

I could only afford 1 vehicle, I'm a big guy and need the head room, and enjoy off-roading on weekends. Too me anything getting more than 15mpg is great economically. I remember hearing that the 4.0 had problems in 03 when introduced in the 4runner. Has it been resolved. There were many buybacks under the lemon law from Toyota per consumer reports.

I think you might be confused with the 3.0's in the 4Runners

No, it was definetely the 4.0. As a matter of fact consumer reports even recommended buyers to go with the 4.7 in the 4runners and avoid the 4.0. It had lifter & valve issues.

I am getting a 7 year warrenty with mine (through Geico), no worries.
If the motor craps out, I will get a new engine.

I don't have Geico insurance, but can I get warranty through them, and is it accepted at Toyota?
