Can we drive without the A/C Compressor Belt
#1
Hi everyone
The compressor cluth on my 93' Runner is making some noise. At the moment I don't need the A/C so I removed the belt to avoid that noise.
Could I have some problem by doing this and drive the car?
Thanks in advance

not at all.....I know a guy that did this for 2 years.....but remember your a/c system uses the freon, or whatever it is, to lubricate its seals...so if it sits for a long period of time you could develop a leak....This is why rigs in hot places last much longer on the factory charge than rigs in places that are mild. Most newer rigs run the A/C when the defrost is on, as it dries the air out, thus negating the problem with not using in winter...but on my 95 runner I still had to do in manualy with defrost....

I'm not planning to drive like that for a long time, but I want to wait until I get the right parts to rebuild my a/c clutch bearing.
The A/C compressor work fine, but I have this kind of noises...........
Thank you very much!

I've driven 2 years w/out my AC belt.. Seized clutch on the compressor. Is it fairly easy to take apart the clutch and rebuild/repair it from the compressor or just replace the entire compressor & clutch? I've done many repairs on my 4runner, but the A/C hasn't been one of them.
