Humming Hub

On my 93 pickup 4x4, all of a sudden I started hearing a humming sound from driver front wheel. Jack'd it up, driver wheel harder to turn than pass. wheel. Today I looked, with hubs in "free" position, the driver axle is locked in, while the pass. axle could be easily spun. Obviously it is a problem with my driver side hub. Now, what could possibly be going on wrong here? And what could I do to troubleshoot it more and what parts?

thanks

Possible the spring in your hub went bad or locked up. Take the hub apart and rebuild it.

Yeah, that is what I would do first. Look up under Tech write-ups, maintenance and repair. There are 2 good write-ups about how to convert from ADD to manual. Even though you are not doing that, you will get a good idea of how to rebuild them. (if you do not know already) It does not take long.
