bad rheostat- can I just bridge the wires?

My 4runner kept blowing tail light fuses, after a long frustrating search for the problem I gave up and took it in. They tell me my rheostat is bad and will be $230 to replace! Well thats nuts cause I never even use the thing...

So my question is, can I bridge the wires, keep my dash lights/ tail lights working and then replace it at some point down the road? (or never)

Thanks guys!

Matt

2nding Andy... if you don't mind the lights being full-on, then yes, you can safely brdge across it.

Yeah hit a local junk yard. I had to replace mine and got one from the junk yard for $5 bucks out of a totaled Runner. The dealership wanted like $150 for the part alone and the labor wasn't any better. it's a quick easy fix too.
