2nd gen rear speakers

So Im trying to change out my rear speakers in my 4runner. Im not quite sure though about what size speakers will fit. I know that I can get 5 1/4" back there but what else. I've done some searching but wound up with all kinds of different answers.

Soooo, my question is, what is the largest speaker that can fit in the rear of the 2nd gen 4runners while staying hidden behind the paneling without major modification?

IMO, dont waste money on a rear speakers, unless you have multi channel setup like DD5.1

why?

in car audio, IMO, stereo is still king. if you read some of my post here and other BBs, i've always recommend:

1. buy the biggest and baddest speakers up front. why? because, as the driver you are up there.

2. buy the biggest and baddest subwoofer. why? cause i said so...

3. buy the biggest and baddest amp(s) to power #1 and #2.

unless you drive people for a living, if you have rear passengers, chances are you will be talking or they will be sleeping or doing work and wont want to listen.

adding speakers in the rears, especially bigger ones than the fronts, tend to drag the "image" from the front to the rear. when was the last time you went to a concert and turned around to face the rear wall?

that's just my 2 cents...
